What are lexile levels?

Lexile levels are based on the word frequency and sentence length of a text. Lexile levels are meant to be used to steer students towards texts that they can read independently. Students should not be locked into reading texts solely at their lexile level, but can be used as a great starting point in recommending texts to students.
